A leading regional house builder is inviting rising sports stars and youth teams from Leighton Buzzard to bid for up to £200,000 of funding.

Persimmon Homes is giving away more than £600,000 to sporting causes across the UK, with a monthly donation of £750 available in the Midlands region.

The company’s Healthy Communities scheme is aimed at amateur sports teams and individuals aged 21 years and under in England, Wales and Scotland.

Janet Robinson, sales manager for Persimmon Homes Midlands, said: “As we are currently building the Lake View development on Goshawk Green, this is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes and sports clubs from across Leighton Buzzard to put themselves forward for a funding boost.

“Every month this year, we will hand out £750 to either an individual sportsperson or club in the area, to be spent on kit, equipment, coaching or facilities.”

In January 2018, a team or individual will be selected to represent each of Persimmon’s 30 businesses in an online public vote will decide the overall winner.

One individual or group will scoop the £200,000 top prize to create a lasting legacy, with two runners-up winning £50,000 each. The other 27 finalists will win £5,000 each.

The new fund is in addition to the £720,000 the company already donates through its hugely successful Community Champions scheme each year.

Janet added: “We’ve already seen first-hand what our Community Champions scheme delivers to local schools, groups and charities. This new programme is aimed at creating a lasting legacy for young people who love sport and the volunteers who help to deliver it.

“Everyone who enters from May to December, regardless of whether they win a monthly prize, will be considered as a finalist.

“We are looking for sports teams and individuals who have amazing ideas on how to spend £200,000 to come forward. We will consider anything from new clubhouses, training centres, facilities or gyms, to the development of future Olympians. We’re very excited to see the projects that are put forward.”

Persimmon is creating a selection of three, four and five bedroom homes at Lake View in Leighton Buzzard, with properties available from £351,950*. For more information visit
